Ariel has responded to the questions I posted on Get Satisfaction concerning details of the export feature.

My questions :

1. Does the export save all your notes without replies included? Or does it save entire threads with replies?

2. Does the export save our private notes in full? No need to state those are probably most important. Especially since I found love on Pownce.

3. Does the export include anything I post up until the 15th or does it only go up to the date I requested the export and I'll lose everything after?

Her answers below :

Apologies for all the frustration. The exporter is now running and I hope to know soon approximately how long it may take to receive your data if you haven't already.

1. Entire threads with replies

2. There will be one export for your entire inbox with comments, and one with things that you've sent with comments. MT/WP import format will be saved as drafts, atom is Six Apart privacy rules, and Vox won't import any private data.

3. Date of the export will be on the export page and then you can regenerate it up until the 15th.

Again, apologies for the frustration, the exporter has been our absolute number one priority. We will ensure that no one loses their data - you can talk with us after the 15th if you run into any issues.

Export Questions, should be simple answers

I'm going to post this once more here, getting it on the front page of Pownce and I'll post it in the Get Satisfaction forum. Although just the name 'Get Satisfaction' serves as a joke.

I've been pretty sad about Pownce being shut down and I've been rather angry at merely being a stepping stone to the almighty dollar.

But as my questions concerning the details of the export go unanswered day by day and my lovely export is still not in my hands, I grow even more angry. Mainly because it's beginning to seem like the little button to request an export is for crap. That you announced something that wasn't working or wasn't ready yet.

I'm not feeling so well right now and going through every one of my private notes/important posts is like pulling out my hair one strand at a time. Something that might be avoided with a simple response. If you built the system, answering a question about what it does should be pretty fucking simple.

I guess the lack of response to all the inquiries indicates just how fucking little your loyal Powncers meant to you, and that in turn shows just how little you thought of Pownce itself. It was never your baby or something to be proud of . If it was, you wouldn't be ignoring simple questions.

Do I expect an answer? Hell no. To get one would be to break the code of non-communication that has been in place since day one. If I do get a helpful, honest answer, I might be able to stop the feeling of anger from outweighing the feeling of sadness.

Pownce says it's Six Apart, and Six Apart says it's Pownce. I don't really care who did what, the fact of the matter is the team sold out. Period.

I've been getting Ackbar since yesterday evening when trying to access the status of my export. I'd like some answers. I paid $20 bucks for a service that I didn't even get a full year out of, but I think it entitles me to some answers at least.

Are the exports fucked or what? Do I need to start taking screen grabs of all my important notes?

You're shutting us down with only 2 weeks notice, at least have the balls to give proper service during those last 2 weeks and go out with some class.

Any way we could get some answers? Or are we going to continue the method of non-communication until the end? 2 weeks notice to a shutdown, throw out an export feature with no info and that's it?

Since I'm exporting my data from Pownce, what that includes: all notes/replies public/private sent and received? Only what we post? Only our public data or also the private?
Also, is that until the day we ask to export, or until our last post even when it's already in the process of downloading?

Ok, Pownce. You wanted everything done, I'm done. Getting replies for posts that are no longer there, because they just disappeared, 404's and 500's. I'm not fighting you any longer.

When you see articles where someone says they are glad/happy that Pownce is shutting down, you automatically know they are one of those people that never actually came on the Pownce site, instead posting to tons of sites at once.

If you had been on Pownce, you wouldn't be so happy. You'd be sad to lose friends and a community.
